LoMM Troubleshooting Guide
Below is some info on helping you through various lomm issues with today's computers.
1. Operating System Compatibility
2. Joining a Server
(a) Blocked Game Window
(b) Frozen Game Window
(c) Long Load During Map Change
3. Getting Back to Your Desktop
4. Lighting
5. Performance
1. Operating System Compatibility
Some users with operating systems newer than XP might have some trouble running lomm. Lomm has run on all windows systems from win 98 up but sometimes you might have to help it.
The compatibility of your legends program file might need to be changed if the game wont load. You can do this by accessing your lithtech.exe file in your Legends system folder and by right clicking to bring up its properties. Select and try different modes to see if one works better.
If you cannot find your lithtech.exe file on your hard drive you can perform the same compatibility change as above on the Legends game icon link on your desktop.
Windows 7 users might want to try to change the compatibility mode to (XP SP2) and run it as an Administrator for success.
2. Joining Server Issues
(a) Blocked Game Window
Sometimes when joining a lomm server on Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system's you may find the lomm loading screen may eventually stop and continue to block your screen even though you can hear game action going on behind it.
Try:
Wait for the round to end and it should get rid of the screen next round and let you play normally, thats only if others are playing in a server with you. If you are alone in the server you will have to do something else. To get to the game select a character to join and then select another character class which will kill yourself and restart the round as that new character class. Or just select and wait..
An example of a keying in sequence. Hit 1 / 2 or say 4 / 5
The only time this will be hard to pull off is when its a Warlord map. Warlords cant change classes so the rnd will have to finish before you can see the lomm world.
(b) Frozen Game Window
Sometimes joining a lomm server you may find the lomm loading screen may eventually freeze completely with no game world sound in the background and no way to even select a character to join as in the blocked game window scenario above. This is mainly an issue with Windows Vista and Windows 7. This usually is seen during map change. The player (client) can be seen on the dedicated server as having 0 In Bps and a frozen ping during this event.
Try:
A. Try to reconnect and see if it is a map change problem. Its a pain but if you have this issue and cannot resolve it, you can always leave the server before the map changes to another and rejoin once its changed. Something about your system doesn't like map changes.
B. Change LoMM game compatibility. Right click on the lomm game icon and select properties. Then select the compatibility tab and chang it to run in a different Windows mode. There are multiple sections so try to see if any help. Win 7 users are also having better success running lomm as as windows admin user.
"I have to set lithtech.exe to run in Compatibility Mode (XP SP2) AND run it as Administrator. It loaded."
For more information on running programs as an Administrator check the link here.
C. Change your game network speed which is in the options screen and can be accessed by the OPTIONS button at the bottom of the lomm server list join screen. Lower network selections in the lomm network options screen like 56k seem to make it more stable and load faster for some than the higher rate settings. It is not necessary for you to match up your exact connection with what it says. I have used every different type of connection option available with cable and still been able to play in the past. Trying different options using this can actually illuminate better game stability and overall function with your unique computer system setup.
(c) Long Load During Map Change
If you join a server while it is in the process of changing maps the loading screen dots may stop and look like its frozen. Give the game 5-10 secs extra and it should load the map as usual. There is an extra delay during map change that creates this if you join at that time, the loading screen dots freeze can sometimes make people think the game isnt going to load. If for some reason it doesn't load then rejoin the server when the map isn't in the process of changing.
3. Getting Back To Your Desktop
Problem:
Your lomm game has locked up and you cant get back to your desktop.
Try:
A. Try the ALT-TAB combo by holding down ALT and then pressing TAB. This can sometimes bring up a window where you can close lomm out or possibly activate the CNTRL-ALT-DEL function from here.
B. If ALT-TAB doesnt do anything you can try holding the WINDOWS key for a second and releasing. This sometimes gets you away from the frozen loading screen too.
C. Hold your computer power button in until your machine shuts off. Reboot.
4. Lighting
Problem:
You are having visibility issues with your lomm game or certain lomm maps.
Try:
A. Make it brighter. Access your lomm console in game (the ~ key) and type
BRIGHTNESS 1.7
you can try different numbers. 1 is standard, 2 is the highest.
B. Turn your light maps off or on. Access your lomm console in game (the ~ key) and type
LIGHTMAP 1 or LIGHTMAP 0
1 for on and 0 for off. Turning off i find takes away the games look and atmosphere a bit.
C. Adjust other lomm settings.. Access your lomm OPTIONS screen then VIDEO screen. You will have a few options. Choose a lower resolution that your system can handle. Lower is easier on the system.
Here are some other options on that page that might help. Basically turning most down. Experiment.
Force One Pass = ON
Detailed Textures = OFF
Light Map = OFF
Shadows = OFF
Environment Map = OFF
Triple Buffering = OFF
Weapon Effects = LOW
Optimized Surfaces = ON
Crystal Ball = ON
Max FPS 30, 50, 80, 0

5. Performance
Problem:
You are having bad computer performance issues with your lomm game.
Try:
A. Change your games frames per sec output. Access your lomm console in game (the ~ key) and type
MAXFPS 80
I find 80 or 0 to be the best for me but you might like another on your system. The game settings list 30, 50, 80, and 0. Zero is full open the others are capped. Thirty is the best for slower systems or vid cards.
B. Turn your light maps off. Access your lomm console (the ~ key) and type
LIGHTMAP 0
1 for on and 0 for off. Turning off will make the game look worse but will help slow game performance issues.

try em all and see..
If your system can handle it i recommend turning all the lomm settings up high for best atmosphere and looks.

5. Control
INPUTRATE 40
You can try higher numbers for faster reaction. This can help a lot of mouse issues. You only have to type it once per lomm session.
Problem:
Your try to play but your mouse is not smooth, response is off.
